Experimental and Numerical Study of the Strength Performance of Deep Beams with Perforated Thin Mild Steel Plates as Shear Reinforcement

This study aims to investigate a new shear reinforcement method which utilizes thin mild steel (TMS) plates as in deep beams replace conventional reinforcement. Thirteen reinforced concrete beam specimens with three different plate thicknesses and four varying perforated hole arrangements on the TMS were experimentally tested determine load-carrying capacity crack pattern. The experimental results indicate that 2.0 mm thick has highest capacity. Among plates, three-column arrangement show best performance terms of capacity, 2.9% increment against control specimen. also demonstrated compatible elastic stiffness used links. shows have potential links beams. proposed changed failure mode from diagonal tension combination flexural deformation. A numerical model was developed found good correlation results, demonstrating for use future parametric investigations cost reduction work.
